I cannot do a squat with proper form without falling backwards, bending my back forwards, or putting all my weight on my toes. What do I need to do to practice?
I just started weight lifting, and I cannot do squats with proper form to save my life. Its been about a month.
I've been moderately active my whole life, so I'm not completely out of shape.
I'm 6'4', 22, 185lbs. I'm very inflexible, I took a kin class in uni and during the flexibility lab I was worst in the class on every test. I can't touch my fingers to my toes, I'm not even close, the sit and reach test I couldn't even reach to touch the ruler to even get a measurement.
I got a friend that knows what they're doing to watch, help and show me. But I just can't do it.
If I do it like I usually so leaning forward, even with the bar it hurts my back. My friend said not to add weights if my back hurts already.
I can get to about a 120 degree angle with my knees with proper form. At this point to go any lower I have to shift the weight to my toes, bend my back really forward, or if I force the right form I fall over backwards.
I've been practicing, and practicing without any weight or the bar but the proper motion just seems so unnatural for me to do.
I've been holding onto something to not fall backwards and practicing the movement.
I'm pretty stressed about this as literally no one I know has this problem.
What do I need to do?
